Then it's the AS that's doing it. PHP only runs on the server. You might want to look into an AS board that can help you.

Suggestion for showing new replies.

I'd suggest it to the SMF guys. We're not going to mod this site to do it. -
*shake shake shake*... that'll ruin your supper.

Northern Lights Technology: Programming and Development
ober replied to Guardian-Mage's topic in Website Critique
You might want to give us the link. -
I think it looks good, but people might understand it if you change the font type and remove the italics to make it look more like a power button. I'd also change the color scheme to make the power button green so it looks more like a standard power button.

That's a pretty stupid opinion (no offense). That's like me saying strippers are sexy because I want to get up on stage and shake my ass and look good doing it. People call other people nerdy because they're socially backwards or far too engrossed in programming or techy related things. Not always because they have the same aspirations as that "nerd".

thorpe is correct. And the number of stars change with your rank. Mods and admins and recommended all have 10 stars.

Congrats thorpe! I can only imagine you're feelings right now... I know it was a rush when I asked my wife

It's nothing but a bunch of links and tools that you didn't write (for the most part). There's no style, no design, nothing to critique! This isn't a website. This is a random collection of links and tools that don't provide much value to anyone. The whole point of a login is not to hide content. A site like this should explain what the site is about. It should provide content that explains why it is there and who would use it. You should only have to login to see information about your specific details. Links to your myspace account do not fall into that category.

That's some AWESOME stuff. Thanks!

freakstyle, There was nothing wrong or negative about john's post. Secondly, we're WELL aware of the abilities of SMF and the option to integrate it into the authentication system for the board. We've chosen NOT to do this so far because we have an entire tutorials section as well as other portions of the main site that already have a complex set of permissions and whatnot to control how that portion of the site works. The people that put time into developing the main site donate that time and therefore it is up to those people (myself included) to justify the work that it would take to combine the two. To rework the main site to integrate further into the forums would require almost a full re-write of the main site. That's not something I'm prepared to take over at this point in time. That is the end of this discussion for now and I'd appreciate your understanding in this.

Opera 9.21 - resolution 1280x1024. It does look different in IE and Firefox. I'd say you have a standards issue. [attachment deleted by admin]

Download PHP Designer 2007... it does all that and more. I've recently switched to it and I won't be going back anytime soon.

I didn't say it didn't go with the navigation buttons... I said it runs poorly into the navigation items. The first button is covering the eyes of the character on the left. It doesn't look right.
-
Ahh... sorry I linked you to the old one. I knew there was a new one.
-
I'm not a big fan of either... but if I had to choose I'd go with the second. The first looks like a poorly doctored template. The logo runs poorly into the navigation items and there's a lack of padding in the left column and the content just kind of runs together. The second one is pretty much all the same color. I like the format better and the design is much more defined. The colors and the font size make it hard to read, however.

It's nothing but a skin on wordpress... not much to say.
-
I'll second that. Doing strictly web design isn't going to get you a high paying salary. I did a lot of intranet stuff at my last job, but that was only about half my job. So it doesn't make much sense to post my salary. You're better off trying to land a job that requires some web development as part of it. Or land a job doing something else and then work your way into using the intranet or the company website to do your work.

moving the "topic solved" link

This board doesn't have it turned on. Misc does. It's a board-by-board feature and this one was left out on purpose. Go to PHP Help, you should see it there. Or Misc. -

And it's actually on the bottom right of the thread as well... so now you can have your cake and eat it too. -

Andy/Barand... it's in the top right like charlieholder pointed out. And I think I'd rather leave it at the top because that's where most people will be looking for it. (hence the origional request). -

Jay has graciously moved the link. It can now be found at the top. -
FYI, the "Topic Solved" link is now at the top.

.... get a ISP that isn't such a douche? I'm not sure who you're dealing with, but I'd have to pull down a TON of bandwidth before my ISP would even blink an eye.
