requinix
It'd be too easy though, once you get used to it. Digits are larger than lowercase letters are larger than uppercase letters. j672W > KjSJ6. requinix
Well I did have to look up how uppercase letters compared to lowercase letters. Learned along the way that no, digits 0-9 aren't actually the digits 0-9 like you would expect. And it's not even the reverse of ASCII too (where digits Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/270120-formatting-post-numbers/page/2/#findComment-1389499 Share on other sites

ManiacDan
Roman numeral converters are annoying because the rules aren't set. Though dec2roman is easier than roman2dec. Jessica
What do you mean the rules aren't set? Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/270120-formatting-post-numbers/page/2/#findComment-1389605 Share on other sites
ManiacDan
What do you mean the rules aren't set? 9 is IX and 4 is IV, but 99 is not IC, it's XCIX. They favor the X over the L. Similarly, 499 is CDXCIX. The rule is consistent for NINES but not for "one less than the next largest digit." It's difficult to do programmatically. Not impossible, just not fun. Psycho
What do you mean the rules aren't set? 9 is IX and 4 is IV, but 99 is not IC, it's XCIX. They favor the X over the L. The rules for subtraction are (Reference: http://www.factmonst...a/A0769547.html) Several rules apply for subtracting amounts from Roman numerals: a. Only subtract powers of ten (I, X, or C, but not V or L) For 95, do NOT write VC (100 – 5). DO write XCV (XC + V or 90 + 5) b. Only subtract one number from another. For 13, do NOT write IIXV (15 – 1 - 1). DO write XIII (X + I + I + I or 10 + 3) c. Do not subtract a number from one that is more than 10 times greater (that is, you can subtract 1 from 10 [iX] but not 1 from 20—there is no such number as IXX.) For 99, do NOT write IC (C – I or 100 - 1). DO write XCIX (XC + IX or 90 + 9) Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/270120-formatting-post-numbers/page/2/#findComment-1389644 Share on other sites
